Capacity-Building Program/Steering Committee Meeting (Day 1)
ShareMEDWater Hosts First Capacity-Building Event in the Ebro Delta, Spain
Amposta (Spain), 7–8 July 2026
The SHARE.MEDWATER project is launching its cross-border capacity-building programme with the first Steering Committee Meeting and pilot-focused event, held in the Ebro Delta (Amposta, Spain). Hosted by our partner, IUCN, the event brings together project partners, technical experts, and local stakeholders to advance discussions on water reuse solutions and community-based water management models.
Strengthening Cooperation for Water Reuse in the Mediterranean
The two-day meeting marks a key milestone in the project’s implementation, creating a collaborative space to:
- Exchange knowledge on water reuse governance and innovation
- Explore the specific challenges of the Ebro Delta water system
- Engage stakeholders in identifying barriers and opportunities for water reuse
- Align project activities with local needs and policy frameworks
The first day we will overview the conditions and constraints for water communities, followed by a detailed presentation of the Ebro Delta pilot, including its environmental pressures, technical design, and regulatory context.
A moderated discussion with local stakeholders will enable partners to explore practical pathways for implementing water reuse solutions, emphasizing governance, social acceptance, and long-term sustainability.
Project Coordination and Pilot Development
The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to internal coordination and planning, including:
- Review of the baseline assessment for water reuse governance and innovation
- Progress updates from all pilot areas
- Discussions on scaling strategies and impact amplification
- Alignment on upcoming activities and implementation timelines.
Parallel to these discussions, a stakeholder focus group (in Catalan) ensureds strong engagement with local actors, reinforcing the project’s community-centred approach.
From Theory to Practice: Field Visit to the Pilot Site
On the second day, participants will visit the Ebro Delta pilot site, where they will explore:
- Technologies being tested for water reuse
- Planned infrastructure and operational aspects
- Practical challenges and opportunities on the ground
The field visit provides hands-on insights into how SHARE.MedWATER solutions can be implemented in real-world conditions, strengthening participants’ understanding of technical feasibility and scalability.
A Step Forward for SHARE.MEDWATER
This first event sets the foundation for future exchanges and learning activities within the project. By combining technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and policy alignment, SHARE.MedDWATER continues to promote innovative, community-based water reuse models across the Mediterranean.
